We are looking for a highly articulate, analytical, inquisitive and enthusiastic market researcher to join our multi-disciplinary, long-term strategy team. We want to know what the future energy landscape could look like in years to come; what’s after energy storage, electric vehicles, and wind power, how do we tackle decarbonisation of heat – can you help us find out?
National Grid are looking to take a lead on tackling the challenges in the changing energy landscape. Our team focus on technology horizon scanning, understanding the underlying trends and articulating their impacts. We couple this with strategic project delivery, optimising our current operations through to wider external policy and regulatory development, not to mention setting the strategy and direction for our electricity business going forward.
As an Analyst in our team, you will be responsible for detailed internal and external intelligence scanning, to provide a factual and forward looking view of all areas impacting on the performance of our electricity business. Your analysis will directly inform our strategic direction through the identification of technological and energy related trends, as well as cutting edge business practices and commercial insights, in order to inform business decision making and the creation of innovative business strategies.
About the role
- Researching, investigating and testing strategic hypotheses, suggestions and ideas in order to take thinking in new directions and build appropriate business cases to undertake new strategies
- Maintaining an up-to-date repository of intelligence on energy, new technologies and approaches, and prospective changes in the UK and beyond. Ensuring the business is well informed, and can plan and anticipate changing trends and the implications of any future shifts in market behaviour.
- Evaluating, filtering and distributing a wide variety of internal and external data, information and perspectives so that it reaches the right stakeholders in the most appropriate format in a timely manner.
- Building effective and collaborative relationships with senior managers to increase knowledge exchange and cooperation, and to promote best practice in the sharing and use of business and market intelligence between internal and external stakeholders.
- Influencing how the business collects, uses and feeds back intelligence in order to contribute to the development of a more strategic, proactive culture across the business.
- An understanding of the wider energy sector and business environment – in terms of structure, regulatory environment and the short and long-term issues affecting the industry.
- Strong analytical skills – ability to take quantitative and qualitative information and convert it into actionable insights, analysis and recommendations.
- Ability to apply an understanding of the strategic challenges facing the business to support critical decision making.
- Ability to assimilate and reform large amounts of data in order to draw out the salient points in a way which supports business decision making.
- Experience of creating and managing information and intelligence channels.
- Ability to challenge entrenched thinking in a constructive manner; a willingness and openness to receiving similar challenge.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex strategic ideas and proposals to a wide range of audiences in both written and verbal mediums.
